In Development

New Play 'A Short Supply' written by Toby Gaffney and Emma Rydal.

A rather nervous but resolutely positive Alice Thompson arrives at Northbrooks Academy for her first day as a brand-new supply teacher. She is met and inducted into the school by the increasingly jaded head of English, Robin Hoskins. Short Supply is a Romantic Comedy set against the small herd of elephants in the sitting-room of British Education.

Black Sails

'Sometimes we forget who we love, but we never forget that we have'

Black Sails

Edward Bainbridge is an eccentric man. So eccentric his strange little ways go unnoticed for some time. Until things change and decisions need to be made. In this family drama, guilt, shame, resentment, are all unpicked with dark humour that only a family o nthe edge can create. A rollercoaster of emotions unveiled as three very different people come to terms with dementia within the family.

Performed by local actors Peter MacQueen, Emma Rydal, and Claire Webzell.
Directed by Stefan Escreet (Ragged Edge Productions, Theatre By The Lake).

Emma Rydal's previous work includes 'True' which won Best Production at Manchester's 24.7 Theatre Festival in 2011 and 'Soaked', a play about functioning middle-class alcoholics. Both enjoyed successful rural tours around Cumbria and 'Soaked' had a sell-out week in the studio at Theatre By The Lake.

Arts Council England have already funded the research and development part of this project which included the setting up of 'Marvellous Mondays'- creative workshops for people with dementia and their carers at Rosehill Theatre. A short film was made of the workshops which you can see by clicking this link and below.
